A statement from Paul Hughes

We’re here for you!

Whatever’s going on in the world

In light of the Government announcements this week we want you to know we are maintaining as normal an operational service to our workers and clients as we can.

The continuing spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) means we’re all having to adjust to how we live and work. We take our responsibility to protect our staff, workers and clients very seriously. Our priority is always to ensure the health and well-being of our team and we are doing everything we can to provide the right service to everyone.

There are some key updates we’ve implemented which include most of our employees adopting either a working-from-home or closed door policy and they will continue to work with you as normal – they can be easily reached on the usual branch contact lines and out of hours lines, all remaining the same and operating as usual.

We will be having daily team updates and sharing of information to allow us to best support our clients and workers. We’d like to assure you that we’re doing everything we can to ensure all your recruitment needs are met and operations continue as normal.

Rest assured that this will not impact the support or relationships that have been built and we will endeavour to continue the service you have been accustomed to.

We would like to thank you for your support and understanding through these unprecedented events.

Update from Medical Detection Dogs Charity in MK

A lovely update from Medical Detection Dogs about Oscar, who we are so pleased to be sponsoring!

“Oscar has recently celebrated his first birthday and what a busy year he’s had!

Over the last six months Oscar has been out and about as much as possible as he continues his assistance dog apprenticeship with Medical Detection Dogs – travelling as far afield as Inverness in Scotland.

While most year-old puppies are just learning to catch balls in the garden and fetch toys back to their owners, Oscar is also learning to save lives. He has mastered superb behaviour while shopping, visiting cafés and riding on public transport; exactly the kind of places he will need to go to with whoever he is eventually partnered with and feel comfortable working in. And of course, he is still very much being a cheeky and inquisitive puppy when he isn’t working and loves nothing more than playing fetch games and hide and seek when he is off duty!

Oscar has all the basic behaviours well-rehearsed and is now moving on to some of the more advanced training such as retrieving to hand, off-lead control & recall away from distraction.

We are now particularly focusing on Oscar calmly meeting other dogs when he is out and about as this is where additional work is required. Oscar is now living with his Instructor and nearing the final stages of public access training and is joining his Instructor with all their daily activities both in the office and in the evening, whether that’s a walk in a country park, a trip to the supermarket or lunch at a café or restaurant. Over the next few months, we will be assessing Oscar to determine what age and lifestyle of client would be most suitable for him.

We are really proud of Oscar and all he has achieved so far and would like to thank Unique Employment Services Milton Keynes again for supporting us with his training.”

Changing Room Charity Launch

Unique Employment Services Ltd in Wellingborough were proud
to be involved with the recent opening of the Changing Room and employability
morning organised by NAAS Northamptonshire Adult Social Services as part of
their Employment and Disability Service.

The Olympus Care Services was formed in April 2012 wholly
owned by the Northamptonshire County Council.
Their aspiration is to provide the best possible service to every
individual they support and to promote their independence and make their
customers’ aspirations a reality.

The launch of the Changing Room in the Wellingborough Town Centre helps people to feel better about themselves with a collection of donated clothing which makes people feel ready for an interview. Unique Employment were involved in donating a range of workwear clothing to support the EADS team in Wellingborough.

‘We were so impressed with the set up in Wellingborough and hope our visit for the morning made some difference in empowering some of their customers in gaining some confidence to meet with prospective employers and when attending interviews’  Maria Gustard.

We spent the morning talking to customers who attended the event on job finding tips such as putting CV’s together and interview Do’s and Don’ts.  Along with showing examples of forms that may need to be completed when applying for job vacancies. All this can be daunting but hopefully, our presentations were made some impact.

At Unique Employment Services Ltd we look to engage with the
local community. With our branches being spread across the East of England
locations including Peterborough, Milton Keynes, Luton and Spalding as well as

A message from Sajid Javid to EU Citizens

helping people find work

To over 3.5 million EU citizens who have made the UK their home: you are our friends, our neighbours and our colleagues, and our country is all the better for it.

Whilst our future relationship with the EU is uncertain and I understand the anxiety this may cause, I want you to know how much we want you to stay regardless of whether the UK leaves the EU with or without a deal.

EU Settlement Scheme fully open

The EU Settlement Scheme is now officially open. This means that the rights you and your family currently have, including access to employment, healthcare, benefits and pensions, are protected – so you can continue to live your lives as you do now. After a successful launch on Saturday, more than 50,000 applications were made over the weekend. This brings the total number of applications to over 280,000.

Applying to the EU Settlement Scheme is completely free, and the Home Office’s aim is to make it as simple and straightforward as possible. All you need to do is complete a three-step application with a laptop, tablet or mobile device to prove your identity, confirm you live in the UK and declare any criminal convictions.

Let me be clear, we are looking for reasons to grant people status and we want everyone to get the status they are eligible to receive.

Support for everyone

As Home Secretary, I’m determined that no-one is left behind. That is why up to £9m has been made available for supporting more vulnerable people, whether they are homeless, elderly, disabled or unaware of the Scheme so far, to make an application. For those without access to a computer, or lacking the skills or confidence to use one, there will be assistance available in Assisted Digital locations across the country.

The Scheme has already been thoroughly tested. Nearly four out of five of those who have applied did not need to provide any additional evidence or send in their documents for checking.

There are now multiple routes for providing an identity document. For example, you can use the ID Document Check app from the comfort of your own home, post your document to us, or visit one of the many locations where documents can be scanned and verified. We have 1,500 specially trained staff on hand to assess your application.

ID check app on Apple devices

I know many of you will have read that it is currently not possible to use the ID document check app to verify identity on Apple devices. I’ve had numerous conversations with Apple at the highest levels to ensure everyone can use the app. Together we’ve been working hard to find a solution that will allow the app to work on their devices. I’m pleased to confirm that Apple will be making the necessary changes and the app will be working on their mobile and tablet devices by the end of the year.

We’re committed to ensuring that people in every corner of the UK know what they need to do to secure their status. A £3.75m nationwide marketing campaign is encouraging people to apply now, and you may have already seen the adverts in your local area.

We have worked hard to ensure this Scheme provides EU citizens with the certainty they want, and we are confident that it will be a success.

Please do make sure your EU citizen friends and family know about the Scheme. To find out more go to GOV.UK.

Yours sincerely,

Rt Hon Sajid Javid
